Welcome to Barbu's Apiary

Our beekeeping journey began in Romania in 2006, where working with bees gradually became much more than a hobby. Over the years, we built up our experience, learned how colonies behave through the seasons and grew to care for around 250 hives. It was hard work, but it gave us a deep understanding of the bees and a real respect for the balance between nature, weather and good beekeeping.

After moving to England, we eventually found our way back to beekeeping in 2019, starting again with just two colonies that we drove back from Romania. It felt like a new beginning, but the passion was exactly the same. From those first hives, Barbu’s Apiary has slowly continued to grow here in Yorkshire.

Today, everything is still done with the same hands-on approach. We check the colonies carefully, harvest only when the time is right and make our honey and beeswax products in small batches. We do not want to turn the apiary into something overly commercial or disconnected from the bees. For us, the quality of what we produce starts with healthy colonies and careful, patient work.

Barbu’s Apiary is really the story of carrying something we loved in Romania into a new home in Yorkshire. Different countryside, different seasons, but the same care, dedication and respect for the bees at the heart of everything we do.
